BFIG Nation - Week 1's special pick deadline requires pick transparency for tonight's game. (Reminder that Week 1 locks Sunday morning but EVERY other week locks Thursday afternoon.)
Eagles-Falcons kicks off the season tonight. BTW, I heard Carson Wentz has some spare time on his hands. Anyone know Carson? GET HIM IN THE POOL!!
Tonight's picks are in this spreadsheet. From Sunday forward, full picks are displayed on the website each week.
FAST FACTS:
- 32 Lombardi-eyed folks are on the Nick Foles-led Eagles tonight. 13 Foles-eyed folks are on the underdog Falcons.
- That was kind of a joke. Nick Foles might be good. This isn't a fact. Moving on...
- The Eagles have lost 20 times when picked over BFIG's nine seasons - the most of any team
- The Eagles have lost four times with the BFIG Title Belt on the line
- The Eagles are also the reigning Super Bowl Champs
- The Falcons were the last team in BFIG history to remain undefeated. They didn't lose when picked until 2013 (BFIG started in 2009)
- But the Falcons' division? Responsible for 822 BFIG knockouts last year - the most of any NFC division
@ATLfalcon4life84 (Falcons): "Lets go boys!!!!"
Commish says: WE BEGIN BFIG 2018's COMMENTS WITH A TOTALLY UNBIASED PICK
@tmulvey (Eagles): "Since 2000 defending Super Bowl Champions are 15-3 in Week 1 the following season. Green Man is not about to let that be 15-4."
Commish says: Who, exactly, is Green Man? Nick Foles on the front of a frozen peas bag? What every drunken male Eagles fan screams (while pounding his chest) after being turned down at a bar? Andy Reid in a seafoam blazer?
@ChillyMutt (Falcons): "Dirty Birds will "Fly Like an Eagle" this year!"
Commish says: So, if this means the Falcons are good... and being good means the Falcons are like the Eagles... and the Falcons are playing the Eagles... what does this mean? Other than Yahtzee?
@cwerdman (Falcons): "One word: Onions. "
Commish says: You do realize that Moxie Onions taste better and cost less than Onions, right?
2017 was a banner year for us. No, I can't tell you why. But it obviously was. We're back with your Week 1 survivor power rankings...
Vegas line listed next to each favorite. Home teams in caps. Power ranks result from the average of our three individual rankings. Full commentary below.
@Commish: How are you feeling about this year, Dad?
@BigDaddy: I think this is as wide open a year as BFIG has ever seen. A combination of teams that have consistently drafted high and have young players coming along, plus, have you seen the rookies this year? Whoaaaa whoa. The Giants got better because they got rid of their fricken coach - Bill McAdoo
C: It's Ben McAdoo
BD: Excuse me. But does it matter? He's oil.
C: Who else is better?
BD: The Browns are better. They got the dude from Oklahoma
C: What's his name?
BD: Mason? Browns... It'll come to me
C: Whatever you say, Dad.
BD: It's a wide open year.
C: You still aboard the Caldwell Choo Choo?
BD: He got replaced. Where'd he go?
C: I think he moved to Minneapolis to be friends with you.
BD: I have a 12-pack of Bud Light Lime in the fridge that I'd love to offer him.
|
C: OK, on to this week. Are you seriously picking the Browns?
BD: Three reasons. 1) I like Hue Jackson and it's his third year there. 2) They have BAKER MAYFIELD. It came to me. He had a good preseason. 3) They're defense is better. And 4) Josh Gordon is back.
C: That's four reasons.
BD: The Browns will be better. They're going at least 8-8.
C: Dad, I don't want you knocked out of BFIG in Week 1.
BD: Yeah, I know. You and everyone else is trying to talk me out of this.
C: Godspeed, Dad.
|
C: Why is Baltimore your #1 power rank?
BD: Buffalo got rid of Tyrod Taylor
C: He's on the Browns now
BD: Ya. Reason #5.
C: So you're low on the Bills.
BD: Who's running that f***ing organization? Nathan Peterman?
C: You got his name right.
BD: Yeah. He's memorable. Not how you want to be memorable.
|
C: I've got the Saints #8. Why are they #2 for you?
BD: They're gonna win. You're the outlier.
C: The Saints have dealt more painful early season BFIG losses than almost all other teams combined.
BD: They've got great running backs. Should have been in the Super Bowl last year. Brees still has it, even though he's shrinking in size.
C: Shrinking?!
BD: Ya. When you get older, you shrink.
C: Seems like another red flag.
BD: They're gonna take care of business.
|
C: Any closing thoughts?
BD: I think the NFC North will be the most competitive division in football. Every team will finish above .500. And J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS.
C: What about the Jets?
BD: Joe Willy Namath took them to the Super Bowl.
C: Yes he did. 50 years ago.
BD: Sam Darnold will take there within two years. 50 year anniversary.
C: Bold, as always. May the Browns be with you, Dad.
BD: Over and out!
