Friends in fast breaks,
Note 1: The pick deadline is early this week! 2pm PT Friday, not the usual 4pm PT. Thanksgiving is messing with lots of our due dates this week, beware!
Note 2: Let's write more comments with your picks! NBA is a small SZN and y'all are making some wild picks, so your chances of getting featured are REAL good. You can explain your logic, share your serious/silly bball opinions, talk trash about the Rockets, or anything else that can make this a little more fun for all of us ❤️
MAKE YOUR WEEK 5 PICKS
- Walking Bucket Wilt OAD >>
- VC's Knees Survivor >>
- Pick deadline: 2pm PT Friday (11/25)
This week's OAD scoring leader was Devin Booker, posting a bonkers 49 points in the close loss to the relentless Jazz. But which player has been best overall during our OAD slates so far?
Luka? He's got the regular season lead, but he's third for the games we're picking with 35.1 PPG.
Embiid? He's second at 35.3 PPG.
First place? It's that guy who was having a LATE career resurgence last year that had him in MVP conversations this time last year. DeMar DeRozan baby, averaging 37.2 points in the three games he's been picked in. And his 41 point performance this week was his second 40 bomb in our SZN, which gave him the crown so far.

On the Survivor side... What does a heart-attack look like? Yes, CLE was our top pick with 30 people and happened to pull it out in double OT. But THIS play for ATL, with less than 4 seconds in a tied OT game was the play of the week, IMO. The fact it was a rookie scoring the game-sealing oop "against" his father is just an awesome twist that makes it cooler. And our single ATL picker, @layla123, who survived on it is feeling even cooler.
Hawks rookie AJ Griffin Jr. hits the buzzer-beater shot against his dad and Raptors assistant coach, AJ Griffin.

ONE-AND-DONE RECAP
Weekly Standings | Player Performance | Overall Standings
Backup Picks
- 15 of our pickable players didn't play, and 7 of those got at least one pick
- In total, 15 picks were on those 7 DNPs
- GOOD WORK! This is a huge reduction from previous weeks, I choose to believe that you're all using the injury reports and that it is saving lives!
- 14 of those picks had a backup that DID play, leaving only one person with a double DNP that receives zero points this week, sorry buddy
- Reminder - the Injury report is now linked near the top of the picking page, it can't fix last minute DNPs, but it's much better than nothing!
Results
- 7 of our picked players scored 30+ points
- Our top performer, D.Booker, threw up 49 points for his six pickers, an incredible performance for them
- D. DeRozan dropped ANOTHER 40+ bomb at 41 points, helping out his 10 pickers
- A. Davis (38 pts), D. Mitchell (34), L. Doncic (33) and T. Young (33) rounded out the next 5 highest point totals that we picked
- We only averaged 25 points per pick this week
- The "average" player picked scored 22.1 points this week
- This has actually been fairly consistent so far, ranging from 21.0 to 22.3 points so far
- However our PICK distribution was heavily stacked into players from the 15-24 point range, dragging down an otherwise pretty good week
- Let's be honest we had some BIG letdowns this week from high volume picks
- 100 of us rode into battle S. Curry and he only mustered 24 points
- But a handful of our upcoming stars stumbled too
- 31 went with J. Tatum (19 pts), 34 with J. Morant (19), and 39 with S. Gilgeous-Alexander (15)
- Big peformer we DIDN'T pick: D. Garland (41 points)
- Other underperformers who disappointed us: Z. Lavine (4pts, 1 pick), R. Westbrook (10, 1), J. Holiday (10, 1), K. Leonard (11, 2)
Standings Check
Remember that we have prizes for Overall points, as well as most points scored over three different Intervals (First 8 weeks, middle 8 weeks, and final 7 weeks). There's something to play for all SZN!
- Reminder: Overall and the First Interval are effectively the same right now
- We had a big jostling in the standings this week (normal this early), and only one of last week's Top 5 remains
- @Merlinmei383 has taken the overall lead after four weeks with 149 total points, averaging an impressive 37.3 points per pick so far
- Rounding out the top "five" are @Joeycl7 (145), @dcwiek (143), @desks1448 (142), and @Bigrv51 (141), @mfeeney21(141), @RemixToIgnition (141)
- We still have 78 players averaging 30 points per pick so far, let's see how long that holds
Team SZN Performance
- We bombed this week, @Merf (19), @TheCommish (19), @TheGM (16), and StatCzar (15)
- Overall, I've still got our best placement at 148th
- Reminder: we play along for fun and pride, we can't win anything
SURVIVOR RECAP
Weekly Standings | Game Outcomes
Results
- We entered the week with 84 players and exited with 71, an 84.5% survival rate
- This week served up a platter of nail-biters for us
- Our top pick, CLE (vs CHA) with 30 picks, went to double OT
- CLE lead by ~8 points for about 40 of the initial 48 minutes
- In the OT1, CHA kept taking small leads, but then CLE took control in OT2 and put it away
- That's an exciting win for these 30 pickers
- CHI (vs ORL) was our next big pick at a much smaller 9 picks
- ORL dominated this game in Q2 and Q3, but CHI brought it back in the fourth to lose it at the very end
- Sadly, we lost these 9 pickers
- IND (@ HOU) had 7 pickers and looked OVER 2 quarters in when HOU held up to a 20 point lead
- Tankers gonna Tank
- HOU gave up the lead in Q3 and barely made any noise for the rest of the quarter
- WAS (vs MIA) had 4 pickers and 1 was on MIA
- MIA had 9 (!!!) players out with injuries including four of their starters
- So naturally Kyle Lowry said "You f**ing need me!" and decided he was gonna beat WAS with the second and third stringers
- He posted a 24/15/10 triple double, running up a 10+ point lead for most of Q3
- WAS pushed back in Q4 to tie it on a Kuzma three to go to OT, where they captured the win
- We lost our 1 MIA picker
- ATL (vs TOR) and their one picker pulled off the victory off of an AMAZING press break and buzzer beating alley oop
- POR (vs UTA) and PHX (vs UTA) each had a single picker, and they both fell to the Mar-KANNON and the rejuvenated Jazz
Team SZN Performance
- Commish and I survived our OT heart-attacks on CLE and WAS respectively
- Reminder: we play along for fun and pride, we can't win anything
Yours in hoops,
The GM
