Friends in fore,
This week is yet another "elevated event". The Genesis Invitational champ will bag $3.6M.
There are many more events like this to come, so allow Commish to remind you: NOBODY is out of it - no matter how little you've earned so far - and that'll remain true until deep into the SZN.
Now, let's talk about the Scheff returning to his throne...
WEEK 5 PICKS (Genesis Invitiational)

Last year at exactly this time, Scottie Scheffler went from "guy" to the #1 golfer in the world in a matter of 2 months.
He won the Phoenix Open (which he just did again). He won the Arnold Palmer. He won the WGC Match Play. And then he won The Masters.
If this were football and someone did the equivalent of what Scheffler did, every damn sports media outlet in the country would be losing its mind. "THE SCHEFF KEEPS COOKING!" "SCHEFF'S KISS" "A SCHEFF'S MASTERPIECE" "FOUR COURSE MEALS AT SCHEFF'S KITCHEN".
OK that last one wasn't very good but you get the idea.
In winning the Phoenix Open again, Scheff flashed the game that made him absolutely unstoppable a year ago.
But it's golf. And no one who isn't named Tiger has shown the ability to maintain dominant play for much longer than 1-2 months. And Scheff faded pretty hard in the back half of last year.
So, will the Scheff keep cooking this week? Or will it be yet another case of "still waiting for that Tiger-type dominance"?
AND OH YEAH - Tiger is teeing it up this week, in a surprise move.
You'll have to scroll deep on the picking page... because Tiger isn't ranked highly anymore.
But he's still Tiger. And we don't doubt Tiger.
WEEK 4 RECAP
YEYPO
Golfer Performance | Weekly Performance | Overall Standings | Golden Spreadsheet
Good week for us, as 97 people picked Scheff, and our 1st (Xander), 3rd (Rahm), and 4th (JT) most picked golfers all bagged top 10 finishes. We averaged $605K per pick, which equates to 3.03% of the purse. Anything north of 3% is a solid week.
Course history matters. Most of our winners so far have enjoyed success on that course before. It's the classical Golf OAD debate: Does recent form or course history matter more? If a guy missed the cut last week, does that matter if he has 3 top 10s in the last 3 years at this event? Commish can't answer these questions. He can only pose them.
Skin?
Nope. Malnati held the lead at one point but wasn't picked by any of us. Joseph Bramlett (2 picks, T7) was the highest skin oppo finisher.
Biggest shank:
Collin Morikawa is really hard to predict. Like, really hard. Dude has two Majors - both of which almost no one saw coming - and is always a threat to win... but he also misses cuts when he feels like a lock to post a top 10. 198 of us (12.2%) took him in YEYPO, and 55 (8.6%) took him in Survivor. He'd gone 3rd, 2nd, 6th in his last 3 events. And he missed the cut. Brutal.
YEYPO Standings
We have a new leader in @Hokie21, who has bagged two wins and four top 10s en route to $5,858,550 in earnings. Right behind are @boombiscuit and @Mingo with $5,822,550. All three of our leaders picked Rahm in week 1 (W) and Scheff in week 4 (W). The average earnings so far is $1,178,909, and a LOT can change in a week.
Big John
Golfer Performance | Weekly Performance | Alive Players | Golden Spreadsheet
We posted an 82.1% success rate, which is our second best so far. Six of our top 7 picks made the cut. Morikawa accounted for almost half the carnage. 522 of us are onto Week 5.
Team SZN Performance
COMMISH IS IN 8TH PLACE. Look out, world. @Merf picked up his first-ever Golf SZN win with Scheff, which vaulted him to 86th overall. We're all out in Big John.
Reminder: Team SZN plays along for fun and bragging rights but can't win any money.
Yours in metal stick swinging,
The Commish
