UCL R16 Week 2 Update

Friends in fútbol,

We had just four games to pick in the first week of the Zlatan Pick'em knockout stage.

And we officially had more people go 0-for-4 than we did go 4-for-4.

 

R16 WEEK 2 PICKS

 

In a week marked by four tight games (three 1-0 results and a 2-0 result), we averaged just 1.87 correct picks.

The correct pick distribution went like this:

  • 4 correct picks: 7 people
  • 3 correct picks: 46
  • 2 correct picks: 62
  • 1 correct picks: 53
  • 0 correct picks: 15

A big culprit for our tought start? Draws. As in, no matches ended in a draw, and a whopping 22% of our picks were for draws.

The largest % of draw picking we saw in the Group Stage pick'em was just 15.6%. And while we batted just .272 in getting those draw picks correct, at least SOME draws happened.

And thus, the great UCL Pick'em debate will continue: Should you ever pick draws?

The argument FOR: When draws DO happen, it's hard to come out on top if you didn't go for it.

The argument AGAINST: Draws happen less often than winning/losing outcomes. So, the odds-on play is to pick teams to win.

A LOT of games still to be played. Get those Week 2 picks in by Tuesday at noon PT!

@Noteldar (Pick'em: TOT, BAY, DRAW, BEN): "Bayern PSG are playing on Valentine's day, don't expect any love though - Neymar needs revenge for that Coman goal in 2020, but with Mbappe out and Cancelo in - don't listen to the odds, Bayern will win this one"
Commish says: There's something awesome about superstar athletes who make ungodly sums of money saying after the game "yeah, I should NOT have played on my injured hamstring." Tells you they love playing. BUT COMMISH NEEDED MORE GOALS FROM YOU, MBAPPE.

Commish says: SO HOT YOU CAN ADD A THIRD "i" NEXT TIME

 

@Nielsenz (Pick'em: MIL, BAY, DOR, DRAW): "I know nothing about soccer! Let’s gooo"
Commish says: *Checks notes* *This guy bagged 3 correct picks* ... *Checks notes again* *Commish bagged just 1 correct pick* ... NEVER CHECKING NOTES AGAIN
