WEEK 7 (Arnold Palmer Invitational)

- Purse: $20,000,000
- First place: $3,600,000
- Pick deadline: 3/2 4am PT Thurs
Chris Kirk won his first tourney in 8 years... but only after dunking one in the water on the 72nd hole.
In a way, it was the perfect ending to a tourney that's on the growing list of "also-ran" events. Kirk was one of the best guys in the field by World Rank - and a lot of us picked him - but he's not an elite golfer and, again, hadn't won in 8 years.
So you might expect an ending like "guy just needs to par an easy hole to win... but dunks it in the water... but ultimately it doesn't matter because other guy who nobody knows couldn't capitalize in the playoff."
Welcome to what the PGA Tour has done with every non-Elevated, non-Major event.
And there are a lot of them! So get ready for more Chris Kirk - Eric Cole battles. To win Golf SZN, you need to slay the big gun picks as well as the small(er) guy picks.
Every dollar counts.
WEEK 6 RECAP
YEYPO
Golfer Performance | Weekly Performance | Overall Standings | Golden Spreadsheet
Chris Kirk was our most picked winner of the year, with 163 picks. He was our third biggest pick of the week, behind Sungjae (T42) and Lowry (T5). But since we were so heavy on Sungjae and he finished way back, we netted a ho-hum per-pick average of 2.89% of the purse. Still, through six weeks, we've had just one poor showing (Pebble Beach). We're WAY ahead of our money pace from last year, and it's not just because of the Elevated events - we're outperforming on a "% of the purse" basis, too.
As expected? One of the "best" guys won. Another of the "best" guys finished T5. And it's in quotes because it was a very weak field and the storylines just weren't that compelling. 2nd through 4th place were taken by Eric Cole (1 pick), Tyler Duncan (0 picks), and Ryan Gerard (0 picks). Woof.
Skin?
ALMOST! Eric Cole (T2; lost in a playoff) was a full skin pick by @NRTBK, and that was very nearly our first skin of the year. What a pick!
Biggest shank:
We made Denny McCarthy - yes, Denny McCarthy - a top 5 pick and how did he reward us? By going out and shooting 5-over on Thursday. C'MON DENNY.
YEYPO Standings
@Kester988 held onto the lead, but we've got a new #2 and #3 who both rode a Kirk victory. @GatorBuffs and @Craigstrazz are the only two within $1M of the throne at this juncture.

Golfer Performance | Weekly Performance | Alive Players | Golden Spreadsheet
We went from 467 to 392 after some mild carnage. Kuchar (31 picks) led the disappointments, followed by Denny (20 picks) and Thomas Detry (7 picks).
Team SZN Performance
Commish remains in 9th place after a decent showing with Lowry. Stat Czar took SEPPY, who also bagged a T5, thus keeping pace with Commish.
Reminder: Team SZN plays along for fun and bragging rights but can't win any money.
Yours in metal stick swinging,
The Commish
