Friends in fast breaks,
With just THREE weeks left in our One-and-Done pool, it's time to start talking about the picks that win you SZN titles.
The picks. That win. You titles.
As Commish will tell you every day (and twice on Sunday), you can't win SZN pools without a little Moxie. And you need a lot of smarts, too.
In a OAD pool, one meh pick isn't gonna lose you the title (just look at our leaders' pick histories - they all have some meh weeks). But one GREAT pick can definitely win you the title.
And this past weekend, DeMar DeRozan absolutely qualified as a pick that could win somebody a title.
MAKE YOUR WEEK 21 PICKS
- Walking Bucket Wilt OAD >>
- The Worm Survivor >>
- Pick deadline: 4pm PT Friday (3/24)
He bagged 49 points against the Timberwolves, who never cease to find a way to troll Commish.
The only other 40+ point scorer? Lillard, who has already been picked by most everyone here.
So if you got 49 from DeRozan when everyone else was getting 20 from J. Randle, 12 from D. Fox, or 26 from A. Davis... that's a massive gainer.
What title-defining picks await us in these final weeks? 17 people are within 50 points of the overall lead (and six within 20), while a whopping 65 of us are within 30 points of the Interval 3 crown.
ONE AND DONE RECAP
Weekly Standings | Player Performance | Overall Standings
Backup Picks
- 11 of our pickable players didn't play this week, and 8 of them got at least one pick
- In total, we had 34 DNP picks, led by 13 of us on Kawhi in hopes of his continued resurgence
- DeAaron Fox was our most popular backup pick pressed into action with 5 nods. He posted a meh total of 12 points (but that's 12 more than zero).
- We had 4 double DNPs; please be sure to use the injury report link and "Check injury report" note we've added to the picking page
Results
- Top pick Steph Curry posted a solid 31 points
- And while our points per pick continues to trend downward (because most of us have exhausted all the best guys), Steph helped us improve to 25.6 points per pick, up from 24.4 last week
- Other top picks: A. Davis (26 points), J. Randle (20), K. Irving (38)
- We finally got that "sans Luka" performance we've been waiting for from Kyrie/li>
- But the week belonged to the Bulls' two top scorers:
- DeRozan posted 49, but was only picked by 5 people
- Zach Lavine continued his recent tear and put up 39, to the delight of his 20 pickers
- The DeRozan near-50-spot catapulted @Djw88 to 24th overall. They might be just out of reach of the Overall lead, but a top 20 or even top 10 is now firmly within reach
- Lavine's 39 jumped @SharonP to T11 overall
Standings Check
We have prizes for Overall points, as well as most points scored over three different Intervals (Weeks 1-8, Weeks 9-16, and Weeks 17-23). There's something to play for all SZN!
Interval 3 (Weeks 17-23) Standings
- Interval 3 leader, @ericpf11, got just 24 points from Jokic but maintains a 2-point lead over @NEELERSBTB1 (who got 20 from D. Mitchell)
- Three weeks to go, and still a TON of people within striking distance
