SZN Nation,
While some of us have been celebrating since Tuesday night, others of us have been dragging. Commish has family on both sides of the political spectrum, and Facebook unfriending has occurred. (Yup.)
So, I'm here to talk to you about... sports. I'll explain.
Commish is a sports junkie, but at the same time, Commish is hardly a sports junkie. I am a massive music person and big outdoors guy, can dive deep on topics ranging from international relations to housing economics, and yes, care quite a bit about politics.
Because of this, I sometimes get into conversations with friends about what draws me to sports. I clearly love sports, and to many, sports are a silly diversion.
My answer is often, "Few things in our world, if any, bring people together like sports do." Sports breed unity, community, and passion. Sports help construct identity, and in our formative years, often help us understand identity. Sports foster debate where both sides actually listen to each other. And yes, sports provide diversion. Sometimes much-needed diversion.
Sports shouldn't be an escape - the world's issues, and the people affected by those issues, deserve our attention. But sports play an irreplaceable role in society - a role Commish believes is irreplaceably good.
So, yes, you should reach out to someone across the political aisle today, and mostly just listen. Our country needs a lot more listening. But also, let's f***ing talk about some sports.

BFIG HEALTH CHECK: WHAT SAYETH, MCCARTHY?
Damage done: 493 started the week; four picked teams lost, knocking out 83 people. 410 of us are moving on to Week 10. (Second Chance lost 64 people and is down to 340.)
Who did the damage? Turns out the Green Bay Packers aren't looking so hot. They lost for the third time when picked this year (they're 4-3 when picked, and 4-4 overall), and didn't put up much of a fight against the Colts at home. Broken Record Commish here: Mike McCarthy has done some good things for Green Bay over the years, but it's time to give somebody else a shot.
Could it have been worse? Not really. Seattle, picked by 4 percent of title poolers, had to survive a last-second end zone incompletion to beat Buffalo, 31-25. Other than that, between ANTI-BORTLEMANIA!!!, the Browns Brownsing, and Atlanta continuing to steamroll opposing defenses, it was smooth sailing.
Team SZN record: 0-0. But Commish's NBA game is ON POINT, ya'll.

THE BEST NFL VINE OF THE YEAR SO FAR GOES TO... A PUNTER
The Raiders' Marquette King has probably the NFL's best punter this season.
Word has it punters don't celebrate. WHAT SAY YOU, MARQUETTE?

SOME PEOPLE WROTE IN AARON RODGERS FOR PRESIDENT. THIS HELPS EXPLAIN WHY
When asked about the election, Rodgers said this:
"When you saw President (George W.) Bush throw out the first pitch after 9/11, I just remember that was a powerful time for our country to say, ‘Hey, we’re moving on. We’re getting past this.’ Sports can do that for you at times, but as a country you saw last night, there wasn’t a 50 percent majority winner. It’s a two-party system. There’s binary systems that are built up in this country all over the place to divide us, and I think it’s important especially in this time with our election that we learn how to work with each other.
"Sports can bring people together and break down the initial barriers. Obviously, it’s on a way different scale. You’re talking about running a country compared to providing entertainment for people, but we love the opportunity to do what we do and inspire people, and hope we can all move forward together and get this thing going in the right direction."
Rodgers was then asked about the people who said they voted for him for President...
"I just want to thank all the voters out there who did vote for me. I know for some people it was between me and Harambe. I think I finished second in that vote."
