Friends in fore,
This week is the start of Interval 2 in the main One-and-Done.
So if your picks sucked in Weeks 1-6, Commish has two bits of VERY good news for you:
- Every Interval has its own prizes (on top of the big Overall race). And we do FIVE Intervals.
- Most of us have sucked, so you're DEFINITELY still in the Overall race.
Golf SZN always brings you FRESH LIFE. It's one of Commish's favorite parts about how we do golf.
NOW, did you know last week's champ was a bouncer to help pay the bills while he fought to qualify for the PGA Tour?
If not, get onboard one of sports' best stories! Jake Knapp, y'all!
He's the rare 29-year-old Tour rookie, and a whopping 16 of us picked him to win in YEYPO.
That more than doubles our total picks on a champion this year - we're now at 25 through six weeks.
Last year, we had 654 winner picks through six weeks.
So, yeah... that whole "don't worry; you're still in it" thing? YOU'RE STILL IN IT!!
LAST WEEK'S RESULTS
What happened, in one paragraph
It was, once again, a battle of lesser-known guys. Jake Knapp went 64-63 on Fri-Sat to soar into a big lead, but after nine shaky holes Sunday (remember, Knapp was preventing drunk people from entering the clurb a few years ago), he was tied with Sami Valimaki, who is best known for NOT being Viktor Hovland. Knapp calmed his nerves to bag the win by 2. No one other than Valimaki was within five shots.
One-and-Done ("YEYPO")
- Avg earnings: $118,293 (1.46% of purse). Our big gun, Tony Finau, let us down with a T13 finish. Nobody had runner-up Valimaki.
- Winner picks: 16 It shows you how hard this year has been when 16 qualifies are a success.
- Overall Leader(s): @mrmelty at $4,741,620. They missed the cut and STILL held the lead!
- Interval 1 Champ: @mrmelty. One great pick (Hideki at the Genesis, worth $4M) did it for @mrmelty. Top 15 cash, which means @bstefanick at $3,257,925 (15th place) was the last person in the money. On to Interval 2!
- Best Squad: Musket Masters at $7.26M. SungJer Im OAD, Strazzeri Stiff Swings, and Roseville Post 7555 are close behind. (You can still create/join golf squads - you just need 3+ people in the pool to be eligible for Squad Prizes!)
Survivor #1
- Damage done: 51 down. Out top 6 picks all made it, but 7 and 8 (Detry and Hughes) missed, along with a host of smaller picks.
- Survivors: 419 are on to Week 7.
- Best Squad: 16 Squads left with at least 3 survivors.
Top 10s
- Avg points earned: 0.73. Several top picks just missed. Tony Finau (our biggest pick ever, at 62%) needed ONE more birdie (or one fewer bogey) to finish T8, but he fell short. Same went for Brandon Wu (7.5%).
- Top 10s actually picked: 6 of 12. We missed Valimaki (2nd), C.T. Pan (T3), Justin Lower (T3), Carson Young (T8), Novak (T8), and Chan Kim (T8).
- Best weekly score: 6 (@Sjmorgan23). What a snipe! Doug Ghim and Jake Knapp. Nine of us posted a 5-point week.
- Overall Leader(s): @Dpac1556 (20 points). They picked up 3 more points on Patrick Rodgers last week. @yjcc is one behind at 19.
- Best Squad: Nigel Honoring TigersGreatness (39 pts). Unofficial 401k is right behind, and nine Squads are now at 30+ points.
"All 30" One-and-Done
This pool is only active in "big money" weeks. So last week was a bye (and so is this week).
100 Tier One-and-Done
- Avg earnings: $117,975 (1.46% of purse). Almost identical to YEYPO despite nobody picking Knapp.
- Winner picks: 0, but we made up for it with nearly double the Jaeger picks (T3) as we had in YEYPO.
- Overall Leader(s): @mrmelty at $4,741,620. There are now three challengers within $1M of the lead (@CinkHole, @Perdyb25, and @Leojayness).
- Interval 1 Leader(s): @mrmelty. We do 3 intervals in 100 Tier: First half (W1-15), Second half (W16-31) and Majors Only. $400, $200, $150 to the top 3 in each interval.
Yours in metal stick swinging,
The Commish
