Friends in fore,
Survivor #2 starts NOW. Fresh life is the best feeling. Join here if you're not already in.
It didn't look like it was gonna be Scheff (again). But in the end it was Scheff. Again.
The world's best player, now seemingly hellbent on breaking the PGA Tour's single-season earnings record in three consecutive seasons, started Sunday 5 shots back of Xander's lead... and proceeded to do world's best player things.
6 birdies. 1 eagle. No bogeys. A closing 64 to win by one over Xander, Harman, and - most cruelly given an awful lipout on the 72nd hold - Wyndham Clark.
For everyone who circled THE PLAYERS and waited to pick Scheff until this moment, well played. Commish loves seeing strategy, period, and loves it even more when strategy pays off.
LAST WEEK'S RESULTS
What happened, in one paragraph
Scheff was our top pick and he delivered the win. That, combined with THE PLAYERS being the biggest purse event of the SZN - AND the rest of the top 10 being guys with a good share of picks, too - meant one of our best performing weeks in Golf SZN history. Wyndham Clark arguably deserved a playoff with Scheff, but his birdie putt on the 72nd hole lipped out in excruciating fashion.
One-and-Done ("YEYPO")
- Avg earnings: $1,330,999 (5.32% of purse). Our average earnings in this event was more than our first seven weeks COMBINED.
- Winner picks: 289. Scheff was worth $1.3B in combined earnings for us this week. That's not a misprint, and it shattered our previous record (Brooks at last year's PGA Championship).
- Overall leader: @MPSTEELE13 at $9,571,679. They had Scheff last week and Clark this week, which added $5.9M to their total.
- Interval 2 leader: @Uscbiggie at $6,719,800. They had the inverse of our overall leader - Clark last week and Scheff this week - which bagged an even bigger $6.7M combined. (Interval 2 is weeks 7-12.)
- Best Squad: PGA (Pure Golf Addiction) at $21.5M. Newcomer "Swingline" rocketed up the leaderboard to 2nd place ($21.3M).
Survivor #1
- Damage done: 76 down. Willy Z (33 picks) and JT (23 picks) let us down big time.
- Survivors: 191 are on to Week 10.
- Best Squad: Five Squads left with at least 3 survivors.
Top 10s
- Avg points earned: 2.03. Our first-ever 2+ point week! We were aided by a chalk-ish leaderboard, and 63% of us taking Scheff as one of our two picks.
- Top 10s actually picked: 9 of 10. We only missed Maverick McNealy. HOW DID MAV GET IN THERE?!
- Best weekly score: 5 (17 people). With so many top players (worth 2 points) finishing in the top 10, a 6-pointer would have been very difficult.
- Overall leader: @ballwasher11 (25 points). They bagged a 5-pointer with Scheff and Theegala this week. A robust 19 of us have 20+ points.
- Best Squad: Nigel Honoring TigersGreatness (56 pts). Unofficial 401k is just behind at 53.
"All 30" One-and-Done
- Avg earnings: $1,948,894 (7.8% of purse). This number is gonna be very hard to top the rest of the way.
- Winner picks: 121. Only Hideki (182 picks) had more picks than Scheff in this pool.
- Overall Leader(s): @waccco1 at $12.3M. They were one of the 19 people to bag the max $6.4M with Scheff plus one of the T2 guys.
- Best Squad: Nigel Honoring TigersGreatness at $33M. Massive week for the NHTG Squad, and they've opened up a big lead.
100 Tier One-and-Done
- Avg earnings: $1,456,887 (5.8% of purse). We were even heavier on Scheff here than in YEYPO, which produced an even more glittery result.
- Winner picks: 49. That's 26% of the 100 Tier pool that picked Scheff at the best possible time.
- Overall leader: @CinkHole at $8,889,304. $8.5M of that is from Hideki's Genesis win and Scheff's TPC win.
- Interval 1 leader: @Orriginals. We do 3 intervals in 100 Tier: First half (W1-15), Second half (W16-31) and Majors Only. $400, $200, $150 to the top 3 in each interval.
Yours in metal stick swinging,
The Commish
